Video Downloader XT Capture detects the video stream already loaded by your browser and sends its URL to the optional Video Downloader XT desktop app for Windows.
It is designed for custom players where the video URL never appears in the page: the extension observes media requests and player responses, then forwards the stream to the local app. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
### What it does
- Detects HLS (`.m3u8`), DASH (`.mpd`), MP4 and WebM streams.
- Sends the stream URL, page URL, referer, page title and user agent to the local app.
- Pairs automatically with the app: no port or token to copy.
- Optional in-page capture panel, **off by default**.
- Light and dark theme, following Windows when set to Auto.
- Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers, and in Firefox.
### What it does not do
- It does not download files itself.
- It does not proxy your traffic or forward cookies.
- It does not keep a browsing or capture history.
- It does not bypass DRM, captcha or Cloudflare.
- It does not send data to the developer or any third party.
### Companion Windows app
The extension detects and displays streams on its own. The Video Downloader XT app adds quality analysis, format selection and downloading:

The app is optional. No extension or app is installed automatically.
### Privacy
The only network destination is `127.0.0.1` (your own PC). The extension stores only the local port, token, theme and two preferences in `chrome.storage.local`. No analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no browsing history.
