YouTube is one of the most useful learning tools on the internet, but the algorithm is designed to keep you watching. Veto is a lightweight, local-first access controller designed to help you stay focused, study without rabbit holes, or set up sensible browsing boundaries for your family.

Instead of blocking YouTube entirely or relying on flimsy keyword filters, Veto lets you decide exactly what is allowed to play.

How It Works

• Channel Allowlists & Blocklists
Switch YouTube into Allowlist mode so only channels you’ve approved (like lectures, tutorials, or music) will play—everything else is blocked with a calm screen. Prefer an open experience? Use Blocklist mode to filter out specific distracting channels instead.

• Video-Level Rules
Need to watch a single video for an assignment without opening up an entire channel? You can allow individual videos directly. In Allowlist mode, a video plays if either the video itself or its creator’s channel is on your approved list.

• Rule Scope: YouTube or the Entire Web
Choose whether your video rules apply strictly to YouTube or also extend to other detected HTML5 video players across the web.

• Default-Deny for Embedded Videos
Embedded YouTube videos on blogs, news sites, and social media can derail your focus. Veto blocks embeds across the web by default, letting you whitelist only the specific websites you trust (like your school’s portal, Canvas, or company documentation).

• Friction Against Impulse Changes
Self-control is hardest in the moment. Veto lets you protect your settings with a passcode and an optional cooling-off period (a built-in delay before list changes or unblocks take effect). There is also a Timed Lockdown mode to freeze all rules during study sessions.

• Emergency Playback Overrides
If you genuinely need access to a blocked video right away, you can use a limited number of timed daily overrides without permanently disabling your rules.
