It works together with the TAP Video Downloader desktop companion to provide reliable downloads, resume support, quality selection, and media processing without putting heavy workloads inside the browser.

Webpage information and media request data required for video detection are processed locally on your device. Download information is exchanged locally with the TAP desktop companion through the browser's Native Messaging system.

TAP does not upload your browsing history or download activity to TAP servers.

DESKTOP COMPANION REQUIRED

TAP Video Downloader requires the TAP Video Downloader Windows desktop companion for full functionality.

The desktop companion is responsible for:

• Saving large media files to disk
• Processing segmented downloads
• Resuming interrupted downloads
• Merging separate video and audio streams
• Running FFmpeg-based media processing
• Verifying completed media files

If the desktop companion is not installed or available, the extension will display the appropriate connection status.

SUPPORTED MEDIA

TAP Video Downloader is designed to work with supported, non-DRM web media such as:

• MP4
• WebM
• HLS / M3U8
• DASH / MPD
• Adaptive audio/video streams

DRM-protected media such as Widevine, PlayReady, or FairPlay content is not supported.

YOUTUBE

The Edge Web Store version of TAP Video Downloader does not support downloading videos from YouTube.
