This is a **domain-based proxy management extension** that allows users to configure and control proxy settings with fine-grained domain-level control.

### Core Features

**1. Multi-Protocol Proxy Support**
- Supports 4 proxy protocols: HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5
- Each protocol can be configured independently with:
- IP address/host
- Port number (1-65535)
- Authentication credentials (username/password)

**2. Three Proxy Modes**

- **Global Mode**: All web traffic routes through the configured proxy servers
- **Whitelist Mode**: Only traffic to explicitly listed domains uses the proxy; all other traffic goes direct
- **Blacklist Mode**: Traffic to listed domains bypasses the proxy; all other traffic uses the proxy

**3. Domain-Based Routing**
- Add domains to whitelist/blacklist with support for:
- Specific domains: `example.com`
- Subdomain wildcards: `*.example.com` or `example.com` (covers all subdomains)
- Domain list is only active in whitelist/blacklist modes
- Localhost (127.0.0.1, ::1) always bypasses proxy

**4. Automatic Proxy Configuration**
- Uses PAC (Proxy Auto-Configuration) scripts internally
- Generates dynamic PAC scripts based on configuration
- Implements intelligent fallback logic:
- HTTP proxy can handle HTTPS requests via CONNECT
- SOCKS5 > SOCKS4 fallback
- Priority order: dedicated proxy → alternative HTTP/HTTPS proxy → SOCKS → DIRECT

**5. Authentication Handling**
- Supports proxy authentication for HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS5
- Automatically provides credentials when proxy servers request authentication
- Only uses the first enabled proxy entry with credentials

**6. Visual Feedback**
- Extension icon changes based on proxy status (ON/OFF)
- Status badge shows "ON" or "OFF" text
- Toast notifications for user actions (save, enable, disable, errors)

### Technical Implementation

**Permissions Used:**
- `proxy`: Manage browser proxy settings
- `storage`: Persist configuration
- `webRequest` & `webRequestAuthProvider`: Intercept and authenticate proxy requests

**Architecture:**
- **Background script** : Handles proxy configuration application and PAC script generation
- **Popup UI** : User interface for configuration

**Configuration Storage:**
- Saves to `chrome.storage.local`
- Loads automatically on browser startup and extension installation
- Default configuration includes empty settings for all protocols
